Welcome CPAD new member! - We welcome a new member to the CPAD family, Ms. Karen Chen (photo). she is actively and wholeheartedly involved in many public welfare events; an honorary advisor of the Taiwan Overseas Compatriot Affairs Commission, and also a nominee of the Global Federation of Chinese Business Women. Ms. Chen is very impressed by our efforts to help and serve people with disabilities in the minority group that she has accepted our invitation to become CPAD’s PR person and honorary advisor.
CPAD welcome new Board of Directors! - On January 12, 2013, CPAD had add three new board members to the board: Mrs. Vanda Yung (CPAD grant writer), Mrs. Linda Lai (CPAD Accountant), and Ms. Mei Wang (Sit-in Board Member, CPAD Parent Trainer). All of the new members' spouses are active behind the scene contributors to CPAD: Michael Yung (Creative Audio-Video Technology Class Instructor); Mark Lai (Building Committee); and Xiaogang Wang (Photographer, Poster Orignator, and Media Liaison).
CPAD Orange County Chapter - Parent Support Meeting
On 3/16/2013, at OC Chapter, Ms. Jacqueline Miller of Disability Rights California gave OC parents a talk in SB946. SB 946, effective July 1, 2012, generally requires health care service plan contracts and health insurance policies to provide coverage for behavioral health treatment for individuals with autism or other pervasive developmental disorders (PDD). Ms. Miller gave us information sheets regarding this bill and explained in detail how it affects families with children diagnosed with autism or PDD.

CPAD Alhambra Headquarter - Activity:
CPAD Chinese New Year Celebration - CPAD celebrated the 2013 Lunar Chinese New Year at Ocean Star Restaurant in Monterey Park. Once again, long time supporter of CPAD, the Honorable Congresswoman Judy Chu arrived to give a brief speech of congratulations and wish everyone luck in the new year. She also presented distinguished contribution awards to architect Tim Cho, who is in charge of the overall design of the coming CPAD Activity Center. He is also ardently involved in helping CPAD to communicate with various departments in the City of El Monte to keep the project going. CPAD parent Mr. Xiaogang Wang received the award for his active role in connecting media, creating posters, and promoting CPAD’s activities throughout the years. Mrs. Tak Lee was also awarded for her generous 7th consecutive year’s contribution to this event.

“Tax, Tax, More about Tax” Workshop - on 1/19/2013, Parent Mr. Kenny Yu, CPA gave us a talk in Tax updates in 2012/2013. There are many changes in taxes. For instance, in 2013, the top income tax rate for individual taxpayers with income exceeding $400,000 ($450,000 for married taxpayers) is 39.6%. The top rate for capital gains and dividends will rise to 20% (up from 15%) for these high-income taxpayers in 2013. Beginning in 2013, an individual must pay 3.8% additional Medicare tax (ObamaCare tax) on net investment income if he/she meets the above mentioned income threshold amount ......

Speaker, Dr. Cullinane traveled to Chengdu last year, and this year traveled to Nanjing and Urumuqi to visit schools, and participate in training about autism. She will share photos and stories about the children there, their schools, and services.

Coordinator Mimi Chou will host this parents gathering for exchanging ideas, encouraging each other, enjoying ourselves, invigorating every one of us. This is also an opportunity for us to express our expectations of the support group and to plan for the new year.

JCUAA “Happy Together Party” for CPAD Children/Families - Joint Chinese University Alumni Association of Southern California held a “Happy Together Party with the CPAD Children and Families” at CHEC building in San Gabriel, on 10/27, JCUAA brought with them their love and blessings to more than fifty CPAD families; there were approximately 150 participants to the party, which was an exciting and bustling event. The event was jointly hosted by former JCUAA President, Mr. Lo, and Alice Thomas, a forever friend of CPAD. We sincerely thank members of JCUAA for the joy and happiness they brought to us; their love and enthusiasm have enriched the lives of our kids.
CPAD 2012 Year End Party Celebration hosted by Tzu Chi Academy - The widely anticipated year end party, has finally arrived. On 12/8/2012, at 12 pm, Tzu Chi Academy brought foods, and many well orchestrated and brilliant shows. They led CPAD parents and kids to sing and dance; everyone was infatuated with joy and excitement. There were quite a few kids wanting to perform for the audience; regrettably, due to time constraints, we had to turn them down. The event came to an end with the beautiful tune of “Grateful Heart”. We wish to thank all volunteers from the Tzu Chi Academy for their everlasting contribution to CPAD.

IHSS Workshop - On 11/17/2012, CPAD Orange County Chapter – Attorney Jacqueline Miller of Disability Rights California gave us a talk in IHSS (In-Home Supportive Services). She covered IHSS programs, the types of IHSS services available, eligibility, needs assessment, how services are authorized, how to prepare for assessment, personal care assistance, protective supervision, form required for any IHSS hours, when can a parent be paid as an IHSS provider, appeal process, and resources.
